Symbols and Abbreviations
While US and UK crochet terms are similar, they use the same terms to describe different stitches. Here is a conversion chart. You can tell whether you are using a US or UK pattern by the terms – if you see reference in the text to a single crochet (sc) you have a US pattern, or a treble (tr) you have a UK pattern. The same symbols are used however. The other way to tell is to check the hook size – if it is metric you are likely to have a UK pattern.
|double crochet (dc)||single crochet (sc)|
|treble (tr)||double crochet (dc)|
|half treble (htr)||half double crochet (hdc)|
|double treble (dtr)||triple crochet (trc)|
|slip stitch (sl st)||slip stitch (sl st)|
